Tests

Yesterday Kaden had an MRI scan, to try andĀ discoverĀ where his pain is coming from. HeĀ did a fantastic job at keeping still inside the machine for the 20 minute scan. At this stage the results from this scan appear to be clear, but I believe they still need to confirm this with the doctors.

This afternoon (2:30pm Perth time) he was also undergoing a bone scan (another possible source of his pain).

It is good to see that they are trying to give him a thorough examination, so that they can give him the best possible care.

Good Night Last Night

Although Kaden is still in hospital, and they are still running lots of tests to get to the bottom of what is causing his pain, he had a good night last night. Dad Lee kept the nurses on their toes to make sure that they kept up his pain medication, and Kaden made no complaints throughout the night.

A Message From the McDevitts

7 years ago Kaden came into our lives fighting for his life, with love and support of family and friends we managed to get through it. 7 years on he is in another battle, this time with liver cancer. With Lee and myself off work while Kaden is getting chemo, we have been overwhelmed with the love and support that everyone has shown. Our families flying interstate, friends and family putting on fundraisers to help us with the financial burden. We are truly lost for words.
We thank you with all our hearts
Lee, Fin, Kaden and Liam xxxx

Fundraiser a big success!

On Saturday, friends of the McDevitt family (from Kaden’s school), Tracey and John held a fundraising party at their own home. A huge amount of effort has gone into this, with raffles, games, donations from local business, live and silent auctions. There was even a jumping castle for the kids (and even some of the big kids šŸ˜‰ ). They also provided all the food for the day! The generosity of these two beautiful people is unbelievable. Finn and the McDevitts managed to take a few hours away to come along to the event, and were completely overwhelmed. What a fantastic achievement! A huge thank-you goes to all the people involved in this wonderful event!

Pain Improved

As of yesterday it was decided to put Kaden on an IV for pain relief. Although they still strongly suspect one of the Chemotherapy drugs to be the main cause of the pain, they are still running various tests to check. Kaden seems to be a lot more settled since going on to this IV drug. Obviously, it has been a very stressful time for Finn and Lee, having to see their boy in so much pain. What a wonderful job they are doing, and all our love and support goes to them as well.

Obviously with all this going on Kaden has been struggling to eat. Being the trooper that he is, he has been managing to drink some protein milk. Keep it up little man, and hang tough!

Tough Times

At the time of writing this Kaden is back in Princess Margaret hospital. Unfortunately, even for this brave little man the pain became too unbearable. His pain is mainly around his belly, down to the top of his legs. At this stage they suspect that one of the Chemotherapy drugs could be the cause of this terrible pain (and that this is not an uncommon side effect of the treatment).

Even at the hospital they have had a hard time to get his pain under control for him. At last count they have put him on an I.V. drug for pain relief. We are all hoping that this gives the wee man (and his family) some relief. Our hearts go out to everyone.

Minecraft Support from UK

One of Kaden favorite games is Minecraft. Last Saturday, in their spirit, Kaden’s cousin’s partner Jim (alias Mr. Foggy) from the UK performed a 24 hour Minecraft world creation. (Don’t ask me for too much details because I am not sure how it all works ;)). This was done as a fundraiser for Kaden and family. What a wonderful gesture on their part! If you are interested check out the links to the youtube clips from this below. Kaden and Lee were able to logon to check out what the guys had created from people all around the world. At last count they had raised over $400! Awesome job guys! Thank you so much! šŸ™‚

Round 1 Completed

Kaden completed his first round of chemotherapy yesterday. His spirits lifted knowing that he would be going home with his family, and back into his own room, for the first time in 2 weeks. Mum, Dad and Liam were also very much looking forward to it.

This will give him a break from the chemo for about 2 weeks, when he will return to hospital for Round 2.

His first night at home was quite a rough one for him and family. He was in a lot of pain during the night in his tummy, and eventually they decided to returnĀ to hospital this morning. An x-ray found that he has a big gas bubble in his tummy. He really needs to go the toilet and do a big fart šŸ˜‰

He is back at home again tonight, and hopefully they will all have a better night.

Nuggets a winner!

After really struggling to feel like eating anything, Kaden indicated that he might like to eat some chicken nuggets.

Auntie Annie cooked up some homemade chicken nuggets, and they were a big hit! Kaden ate three nuggets, and shared some with Liam. The next night, Kaden wanted nuggets again! This time he ate 5 nuggets, and he said that they were “delicious”!

This was wonderful sight for all the family, and a great improvement. Keep up the great work Kaden, you need to keep your strength up! Auntie Annie has stocked up the freezer with nuggets for you; but you better watch out that your little brother doesn’t eat them all! šŸ™‚
